What does success mean?

A handful of people have asked me about my goal with Mother Untitled and what defines success.  I didn't think I had an answer at the ready especially because shamefully, my immediate internal reaction, is to assume they are skeptical of "another blog".  However, I keep coming up with these three things.

1.  I know there is a very real, complex and (to me) fascinating tension for modern women between ambition, their womanhood and motherhood.  Its an honest conversation that I gain a lot of comfort and confidence from having in real life.  If I can expand and grow that conversation online, I would feel like I've had impact.

2.  I would be thrilled if this allows me to write consistently enough to call myself a real writer (I think its too soon to update my LinkedIn...).

3.  It keeps my tools sharp.  While my career is on pause, creating something I care about in this form keeps me learning about technology, marketing and culture.

I share these thoughts openly because if you're anything like me, you can find 100 reasons not to do something especially with a full plate of priorities, including the responsibility of a little person. But if you are toying with the idea of a project - of any kind or size - if it allows you to impact one person's life, lets you try something you've always wanted to do or simply just keeps parts of your brain active, you have all the reason in the world to do it.

I think there is something incredible about using this pause to not only create space for motherhood but to also make creative room for yourself - even if it's 15 minutes a day and you're hiding in the bathroom so your toddler thinks your husband is the only one awake. Happy Sunday everyone - xo.
